COLONIA Ampliación Granada

October 9, 2015 – January 6, 2016

Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today reconsiders the state of contemporary art in Latin America, investigating the creative responses of artists to complex, shared realities that have been influenced by colonial and modern histories, repressive governments, economic crises, and social inequality, as well as by concurrent periods of regional economic wealth, development, and progress.

Organized by Pablo León de la Barra and previously shown, in 2014, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Under the Same Sun features works by 40 artists and collaborative duos from 13 countries. The artworks are organized around five themes: Conceptualism, Modernities, Participation/Emancipation, Political Activism, and The Tropical.

Learn more about how the unprecedented Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative is expanding the Guggenheim’s collection through its work with curators in residence and collaborations with education teams across the globe.

Find out more about the exhibition through videos and audio, or browse our library of digital content by location or theme.

Travel with León de la Barra through his Dispatches blog series, which documents his research visits to sites across Latin America and records the people and art he encounters.

With the opening of Under the Same Sun—or Bajo Un Mismo Sol—in Mexico City, Museo Jumex launched a new exhibition website Unmismosol.info. Listen to special playlists created by curator Pablo León de la Barra and exhibition artists, snap a photo as part of a digital photo booth project, and find exhibition information and the schedule of public programs—todo en español.
